Jourdanton Powerlifters are STATE-BOUND!!!
Well folks, if you were in Kingsville this past Thursday, you witnessed something truly special. It was a day of grit, and sheer willpower. Two young men from Jourdanton, Danilo Lugo and Joseph Hernandez, stepped onto that Regional Championship stage with two goals in mind: qualifying for State and breaking records along the way.
Neither of these young men are strangers to victory. As Juniors, they were both Regional Champions just a year ago. But this year, they were determined leave with records and performances that would make their community proud!
Joseph, despite a leg injury that had him less than at full strength, wasn’t about to let that keep him from returning to Abilene. With sheer resolve, he placed fourth, all the while setting a new deadlift record with an impressive 615-pound pull. And, with a total of 1,475 pounds, he earned his ticket to the State competition. It was a performance that spoke to the heart and the hustle of this young man, battling adversity with every lift.
And then there’s Danilo Lugo. Now, if you’ve been following along, you know that Danilo isn’t just lifting weights, he’s lifting expectations. The defending State Champion from a year ago, Danilo had his sights set not just on qualifying for State, but on leaving a lasting legacy in the record books. He came out with a vengeance, breaking and re-breaking the squat record with a remarkable 850-pound lift. It was as smooth as if he was just warming up. Then came a bench press of 530 pounds, and then a new deadlift record with a staggering 685-pound pull. With a grand total of 2,065 pounds, Danilo broke his own Regional record from 2024. It was his third consecutive year as Regional Champion, and this is his fourth trip to the State competition.
Now, the team, along with their coaches, will head out Thursday, March 20th, bound for Abilene to weigh in before the competition kicks off the following morning.
The Jourdanton community has always stood behind their Powerlifting program, and as they head to the State competition, we know they’ll have the support of the entire town behind them.
A special group of athletes, to be sure. And no doubt, they’ve earned every ounce of this moment.

JISD Family,
March is the month that we, along with CEN (Collegiate EduNation) collect parent surveys. We have opened the survey and we ask that you help us have a great parent survey collection for 2025.
Your feedback is very important. I am including a QR code and the URL link. Please take a few moments to complete the survey. We will leave the window open for four weeks, closing it on March 28th.
This data will be used in our annual planning, so accuracy is important. Remember that the better the response, the stronger the data.

This past Tuesday Girl's Powerlifting traveled to Edinburg to compete at the Regional Championship. Emelia Garcia had a terrific meet, as she came into the day ranked 9th and walked away with a 4th place medal. Jadie Apolinario and Amaya Loza also got their first taste of Regional competition. Each of these lifters set Personal Bests in front of a very tough panel of judges.
Next week the Boy's compete in Kingsville for their Regional Championship.
