This past Wednesday the Jourdanton Girl's Powerlifting Team competed at Holy Cross High School. The event was loaded with big San Antonio Schools, but our lifters held their focus and all bettered their numbers on the season. Andria Gonzales, Kaylin Smith, Skyler Sexton and Amaya Loza are currently on the cusp of the top 12 in our Region.
It was Senior, Bella DeLeon, however, who owned the spotlight. Bella began the night by burying her opening squat of 475 to impress the judges and then stunned the crowd when she locked out her 500-pound third attempt with ease. The show continued with Bella's bench press as she made 330 pounds defy gravity. Her total on the night earned Bella 1st place in her respective weight class and Best Lifter. Bella's total of 1,165 pounds places her first among all female lifters in the State of Texas.
Great work Bella!!!

This past Wednesday, January 15, at the first Jourdanton Invitational Powerlifting meet, 27 of our own competed. Standouts were Jadie Apolinario, Hayden Schuchman, and Kamden Ray with 3rd place medals. Julian Ayala and Reese Calderon earned 2nd place finishes. Caleb Green-Ondo placed 1st in his weight class.
The stars of the night were Emelia Garcia, Joseph Hernandez, and Danilo Lugo. Emelia was awarded Overall Best Raw Lifter; Joseph Best Light-weight Male Lifter and Danilo Lugo was Best Heavy-weight Male Lifter. Joseph's total was 1525 lb with a 615 lb Squat, 360 lb Bench, and 550 lb Deadlift. Danilo's total was 2060 lb with a 780 lb Squat, 575 lb Bench, and 705 lb Deadlift. Danilo is currently 1st place and Joseph is 2nd in state in their respective weight classes.
All of the Jourdanton lifters set the tone by performing at a high level, and this is only the beginning of a terrific season.
